Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 15, 2022 (SKNIS): The Public Works Department within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure has begun the resurfacing of the Bank Street Road in Basseterre to improve vehicular traffic.
During an interview at Bank Street with the Director of the Public Works Department, George Gilbert, he said that the Bank Street Road was very uncomfortable for the travelling public, and as such, his department decided to remove the road and resurface it as part of the island road maintenance programme.
“We are now in the process of removing the asphalt, and we are now putting in a new sub-base and base before asphalting it,” Mr. Gilbert said.
“We are doing testing as we go along to ensure that we get a road that is fit for the purpose and so we are working with the St. Kitts Water Department and The Cable in laying their services underground,” he said.
Mr. Gilbert apologized to the travelling public and the businesses around that area for the inconvenience caused by the road resurfacing work being done on Bank Street.
According to Mr. Gilbert, the work is expected to be completed around March 20, 2022.
