Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 11, 2024 (SKNIS): Under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr Geoffrey Hanley, the Cabinet Ministers convened on Monday, June 10th, 2024 and made essential decisions to enhance the well-being of our people.
The Cabinet has approved the development of a Consumer Affairs website and a survey and price tracking application to enhance the Department of Consumer Affairs’ operations. This initiative aims to create a modernised web portal and mobile app for digitising data collection processes and improving information dissemination to protect consumers’ life, health, and safety. The proposed Survey and Price Tracking Application will address challenges in collecting, managing, and analysing product pricing data. This solution will offer surveyors and administrators an integrated platform with advanced analytics and real-time insights to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
Additionally, a comprehensive Consumer Affairs website and an intuitive Admin Panel will be developed for the Department of Consumer Affairs in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The website will provide citizens with essential information on consumer rights, protection, and price monitoring, while the Admin Panel will enable administrators to manage content, complaints, announcements, and other critical aspects efficiently.
In keeping with the Administration’s stance on good governance and a robust legislative framework, the Cabinet approved the Legislative Enactments of the Foundations (Amendment) Bill 2024, and the Limited Partnerships (Amendment) Bill 2024. The Bills will seek to meet the requirements for transparency and checks and balances concerning the governance of legal persons, legal arrangements, which encompasses foundations and limited partnerships. The objective is to ensure that known criminals and those who are involved in money laundering, financing of acts of terrorism or persons behind the financing of weapons of mass destruction are not allowed to control these bodies. Both Bills will receive their first readings during the next Sitting of the National Assembly on 14th June, 2024.
