The Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met in a Special Emergency Session on Wednesday, 7 July, in the wake of the assassination of the President of Haiti. The Heads of Government are shocked and saddened by the assassination of a member of the CARICOM family, His Excellency Jovenel Moise, during the early hours of 7 July 2021. All of us at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) are deeply saddened by the killing of Haitian President, Jovenel Moïse and the wounding of his wife, First Lady, Martine Moïse. We offer our most sincere condolences to the entire nation, especially the family and friends of the late President and Mrs Moïse. The CDB pledges its continued support for the country’s development efforts as it faces social and economic development challenges and the effects of natural hazards. It is with a heavy heart that I learned of the extremely sad news of the assassination of the President of the Republic of Haiti, Mr. Jovenel Moïse. I also understand that the First Lady was also seriously injured in the attack and is now receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 06, 2021 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Health’s robust contact tracing continues to identify new cases of COVID-19 with two (2) positive results within the last 24 hours, and 81 recovered cases, which include 39 residents and two staff members of Her Majesty’s Prison. St. Kitts & Nevis COVID-19 Situation Report No. 467 as of Tuesday, July 06, 2021, states that the total number of confirmed cases now stands at 517 with 196 active cases, 318 recovered cases and three deaths. 499 of those cases were recorded in St. Kitts while 18 were registered in Nevis. To date, there have been 21, 450 negative results. -30-
As of July 06, 2021, thirty-nine (39) residents at Her Majesty’s Prison and two (2) members ofstaff have now fully recovered from the COVID-19 virus. They were given the all-clear byhealth officials after having two negative tests recently.
