Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 18, 2026 (PMO) – St. Kitts and Nevis is celebrating another significant achievement in youth sport, with four young Kittitian cricketers selected by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for an elite High-Performance Camp as preparations intensify for the 2027 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Zara Skerritt, Aaliyah Weekes, Leanga Warner and C’Quinya Dasent are among 22 of the region’s most promising female Under-19 cricketers selected for the two-week programme. Significantly, the four young women comprise all of the players selected from the Leeward Islands, giving St. Kitts a strong presence among the emerging talent being assessed and developed for possible West Indies representation.
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew extended congratulations to the young cricketers, describing their selection as a proud moment for the Federation and further evidence of the talent and potential that exists among the nation’s young people.
“This is a remarkable achievement for Zara, Aaliyah, Leanga and C’Quinya, and one in which the entire country should take tremendous pride. To have all four of the Leeward Islands selections coming from St. Kitts speaks powerfully to the quality of our young cricketers and to what can be achieved when talent is matched with discipline, opportunity and the right support,” Prime Minister Drew said.
The High-Performance Camp is being held in Antigua from August 17 to 29, 2026, immediately following the CWI Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship, which concluded on August 15. According to CWI, the camp forms part of its structured approach to identifying and preparing the next generation of West Indies women cricketers for international competition.
Selection was based on several factors, including performances during the regional championship, technical assessments, eligibility for the 2027 World Cup, tactical awareness, temperament, competitiveness, fitness and overall squad composition. The programme will focus on the technical, tactical, physical and mental development of the players while exposing them to the standards and expectations associated with international cricket.
